What is the sensitive information on a credit or debit card? In short, every element on the card must be kept safe, and used only for the purposes of payments.
Credit card data includes the following:
The full cardholder number, called the PAN or Primary Account Number
The security code or cardholder verification value (CVV)
Data from the magnetic stripe on the back of the card
Data from the chip embedded in the card
Any PIN data
How can you keep this information safe?
Never retain the security code from the back of the card.
Do not write the PIN on the card or maintain the PIN in any way.
Avoid sending or receiving card information via email. If you must send this information via email, the data must be encrypted.
